Helen: I’ve just moved down to Canberra to start a new job and I’m loving exploring. The Lake Burley Griffin circuit is an awesome cycle track that goes right around the lake. A total of 28km, the track follows the lake for the most part but detours on occasion through parks, bays and even farmland.
The great thing about this track is that it’s split into three loops, connected by the two main bridges that cross the lake. So you have the option of doing a single loop instead of the whole circuit. The western section is the longest at 16km with the most hills.
Today was a typical cool crisp winter morning. I left my temporary accommodation in Kingston and headed east, finding myself in farmland within 15 minutes. I love this photos of the cows with Parliament house in the background.
Jerrabomberra wetlands has excellent bird watching, again mere minutes from the city.
On the north side of the lake, I was rewarded with a rainbow view of the fountain.
And then came the western section, a 16km loop, with plenty of hills.
Now I’m enjoying a well deserved coffee!
